In This Boat Together

Even if you have a friend
And you give her half your life
Don’t think you can’t blow the whole thing down
And I could say it is my place
To speak of you so openly
Cause you never hid your hand from anyone

And we’re in this boat together babe
And we said it when we pushed away the shore now
And we’re in this boat together babe
And you’ll bare your soul to anyone

And if i had a wish
I’d give it straight to you now
Cause you look so unsure of when you’re coming down
And if you’re coming down

And we’re in this boat together babe
And we said it when we pushed away the shore now
And we’re in this boat together babe
And we’re left without a leg to stand

And i won’t be chasing after any bitch and you

And we’re in this mess together babe
And we said it when we pushed away the shore now
And we’re in this mess together babe
And only the truth can get us back up on the shore

Even the simple act which we describe as “seeing some one we know” is, to some extent, an intellectual process. We pack the physical outline of the creature we see with all the ideas we have already formed about him, and in the complete picture of him which we compose in our minds those ideas have certainly the principal place. In the end they come to fill out so completely the curve of his cheeks, to follow so exactly the line of his nose, they blend so harmoniously in the sound of his voice that these seem to be no more than a transparent envelope, so that each time we see the face or hear the voice it is our own ideas of him which we recognise and to which we listen.

This reminds me of a quote by Anthony De Mello “You are never in love with anyone. You’re in love with your prejudiced idea of the person.”

In many ways this reminds me of how our voice work as well. There internal perception we have of what we sound like and the sound that emerges that does not always compare to how we see ourselves.

Perhaps its a tenuous link, but I believe in the merit of opening up and releasing ourselves in order to align those elements. Our internal perceptions with the external reality. For me, recently it has been about recognizing and championing constant skepticism, challenging any assumptions I have about a thing and re-orientating myself to see what another approach might yield.

Fast becoming my favourite website, another golden letter from photographer Ansel Adams to friend Cedric Wright.

Still having a love affair with him musically. It’s all good though, it’s all good.
